General Travel tips;

Channel Island

Driving tips: It is important to note that roads are narrow and some road systems will be unfamiliar to UK motorists, namely the island's filter in turn system. A yellow criss-cross box painted at a junction indicates this. At these intersections all directions have equal priority. You must only enter the junction in turn with other vehicles. You must not enter the box unless the exit is clear. The maximum speed limit on the island is 35mph.

Buses: The island's main bus station is situated at South Esplanade, just along from the Town Church. One company operate an island wide network, but check timetables carefully; many routes do not extend after the evening rush hour. There is also a shuttle service from the Airport.

Taxis and cabs: There are a large number of cab companies listed in the Guernsey telephone directory and ranks are situated at the Weybridge Clock Tower (near the bottom of St Julian's Avenue) and alongside the Town Church in the town centre, as well as the Airport Terminal.

Hire cars and parking: Visitors to Guernsey can hire cars at the Airport or Harbour on arrival or by looking up car companies in the Yellow Pages. Cars can be delivered to hotels on request and can be ordered beforehand to await your arrival at the airport or Harbour. When it comes to parking look out for distinctive blue parking notices, which will tell you how long you can remain in a space. Channel Island

In Guernsey parking is still free, but when parking in a time restricted "disc zone" area, you must use a parking clock. Hire vehicles have them but if you have brought your own vehicle you must go along to the Police station to obtain one. Clocks can also be obtained at many of the island's service stations or the Tourist Information Centre in St. Peter Port.

In town, there are half hour, one, two and three hour designated parking areas and it is important to display your time of arrival to avoid a parking ticket. At time of writing this stands at £15.00. Ten hour parking is available in town at Salerie Corner and at North Beach.
